Ugadi 2021 Celebrations  (April 17, 2021)

Consulate cooperated with Vancouver Area Telugu Association (VATA) to celebrate Ugadi 2021. The event was graced by Hon Raj Chauhan, Speaker of Legislative Assembly of BC and Consul General. Both conveyed greetings to community members on the happy occasion of Ugadi. The virtual celebrations saw cultural performances by children and adults. Ugadi is a celebration of new beginning of life and primarily celebrated as spring festival in Andhra Pradesh, Telengana and Karnataka.

Virtual Meeting with Canada India Foundation (April 21, 2021)
Consul General had a virtual meeting with Board members of Canada India Foundation (CIF) on April 21, 2021. The CIF team was led by their Chair Mr. Satish Thakkar and other members which included Mr. Ritesh Malik, Ms. Sunita Vyas, Mr. Girish Kekre, Ms. Hema Bhatt and Dr. Pawan Chankotra. CIF Chair briefed on the aim, activities and programmes of the Foundation and highlighted the role played by CIF to foster and strengthen Canada-India partnership. He also noted that CIF wishes to cooperate with Consulate in Vancouver in order to expand its activities in Western Canada. Consul General thanked CIF team for the briefing and appreciated their positive contributions in strengthening India- Canada relationship through their various programmes and policies. He agreed to work with CIF to organize activities in Western Canada. In this connection, CG offered to partner with CIF to organize events to commemorate #IndiaAt75. Noting that there are immense opportunities to enhance trade and economic cooperation both sides agreed to organize events to promote bilateral trade and economic relations in various sectors including agriculture, IT, mining, clean technology etc.

Virtual Meeting with SBI Canada (April 23, 2021) 

Consul General Mr. Manish had a virtual meeting today with Ms. Ranjana Sinha, Senior VP & Branch Head, SBI Canada and her successor Mr. Abhishek Kumar Thakur who will be taking charge of the Vancouver branch soon. Mrs. Sinha briefed about the growth in bank’s operations during her tenure and introduced Mr. Thakur. Consul General congratulated Mr. Thakur on his appointment and conveyed best wishes to Mrs. Sinha for her new assignment. He also appreciated Mrs. Sinha’s efforts in expanding the retail banking services of SBI among Indo-Canadians and support extended to Consulate. Consul General also discussed ways and means to partner in promoting bilateral trade and investment. In the past, SBI Canada has partnered with the Consulate in supporting various commerce and culture related event. They also discussed, inter alia, exploring the possibility of partnering in various events promoting #IndiaAt75 – #AzadiKaAmritMahotsav to commemorate 75 years of India's Independence.
