Emergency Visa

Visa Services - Emergency Services  [0930 – 1200 hrs on all working days and on special request between 1000 hrs to 1200 hrs on Saturdays]

Emergency Visa is not a category of visa. It is an Entry visa granted to Canadian or foreign passport holders of Indian origin for travel to India in an emergency situation to attend to genuine emergencies such as recent death of a close relative of the applicant in India only. Applicant will be required to provide proof of the emergency, which would be subject to verification and visa will be granted solely at the discretion of the Consulate.  Applicants may also be required to appear for an interview. Entry Visa Valid for three months with single entry is granted in such emergencies.   Tourist, Business, Employment, Research or Conference visas CANNOT be applied under emergency procedure. We may not be able to grant the service in certain cases.

On Working days (0930-1200 hrs)

In exceptional cases involving recent death of a close relative, Emergency Visa applications (with Online registrations only) will be accepted at the Consulate between 0930-1200 hours, with a copy of the air-ticket (for travel within 48 hours) in death cases - Only Canadian Passport holders.  Applicants would be required to provide copy of death certificate of the deceased and proof of relation to the deceased.

On Saturdays (1000-1200 hours with prior appointment on Emergency Number/by email)

In exceptional cases involving recent death of a close relative, Emergency Visa applications (with Online registrations only) will be accepted at the Consulate between 1000-1200 hours, with a copy of the air-ticket (for travel within 48 hours) - Only Canadian Passport holders.  Applicants would be required to provide copy of death certificate of the deceased and proof of relation to the deceased. There will be no emergency visa service on Sundays and holidays.

Requirements (In the absence of any of the documents, applications would not be accepted) :

  • Duly completed, printed and signed online visa application form (for registration online, please visit https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/visa/index.html external link).
  • Submit the application along with one passport size ( 2” x 2” or 51 x 51 MM) recent color passport size photograph showing full frontal face against external link a white background to be pasted on the application form.
  • Current valid passport with minimum of 190 days validity and must have minimum 2 blank pages and copy of its first page.
  • Please submit signed undertaking (click here for undertaking) and self-declaration bringing out the reason for emergency travel along with documentary evidence
  • Copy of death of certificate of the deceased person on whose death the travel is being undertaken.
  • Copy of proof of relation of the applicant to the deceased such as copy of passport, birth certificate etc.
  • Copy of proof of address which should be in the jurisdiction of this Consulate.
  • A copy of the Surrender Certificate.
  • Bank draft/postal money order payable to the Consulate General of India, Vancouver as follows:

On working days - C$ 108.00 + C $ 5.00 (ICWF) - Total C$ 113.00

On Saturdays & beyond normal hours on working days – C$ 108 + C$ 5 (ICWF) + C$ 55 (Emergency service charge) -  Total C$ 168

  • In case of minor applicants – (1) copy of birth certificate or proof of parentage and (2) consent form signed by both parents.
