Patriotic Online Event  by V4U Entertainment (June 26, 2021)

Consulate in partnership with V4U Entertainment, Vancouver, organized a cultural event to mark the celebration of 'India@75 – AzadiKaAmrutMahotsav’ on 26th June, 2021. Children from Indian Diaspora from different States of India living in Canada/USA took part and sang in their regional languages such as Tamil, Bengali, Kannada and Punjabi. Among the participants were Ms. Samaira Gupta, Ms. Pavani, Ms. Tisya Banerjee, Mr. Ranvir, Ms. Avantika, Ms. Sripriya Srinivas, Ms. Anandita Chak. The event began with the ‘Ganesh Vandana’ aarti by Ms. Avantika in Marathi. Consul General Mr. Manish thanked Mr. Vikas Gautam and Ms. Sarbani Banerjee of V4U Entertainment for partnering with the Consulate in celebrating India@75 – Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav and extended his warm greetings to them.

Virtual Meeting with SBI Canada (June 28, 2021)

Consul General Mr. Manish had a virtual meeting on 28 June 2021 with Mr. Joseph Selvaraj Savier, President & CEO, SBI Canada. Mr. Abhishek Kumar Thakur, Branch Head, SBI Canada Vancouver and Mr Ramesh Naidu Marada, Head (Retail Banking) were also present. Both sides discussed the ways to boost the bilateral trade and investment opportunities between India and Canada. SBI Canada Bank , a wholly owned subsidiary of State Bank of India (SBI), provides full-service banking and has been serving local communities across Greater Toronto Area and Greater Vancouver Area.

Virtual Meeting with Premier of Alberta (June 29, 2021)

Consul General Manish had a virtual meeting with Hon Jason Kenney, Premier of Alberta on 29 June 2021. Both sides reviewed the state of bilateral relations between Alberta & India and exchanged ideas to further improve trade & economic relations, including working together in priority sectors like agriculture, energy, education, IT & ITES. Premier Kenny conveyed his vision for comprehensive partnership between India and Alberta in the overall framework of Indo-Canada relationship. He specifically noted that engagement with Indian companies is growing, and noted the decisions of Indian IT companies Infosys and Mphasis to Invest in Calgary. Premier Kenney also reiterated his support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of India. In last few months, Calgary has become the preferred destination for Indian IT giants #Infosys and #Mphasis to expand their presence in Canada. Infosys a global leader in next-generation digital services and consulting, on 3 March announced that it would be bringing 500 jobs to Calgary over the next three years, doubling its Canadian workforce to 4,000 employees by 2023. As reported in Global News on 2 June 2021, Calgary will be getting hundreds more tech jobs with the arrival of tech company Mphasis. The cloud and cognitive services provider based in Bangalore, India announced Wednesday that it would be building its Canadian headquarters in Calgary, bringing 500 to 1,000 jobs in the next two years. Calgary will also become home to a quantum computing learning space as Mphasis partners with the University of Calgary to create the Quantum City centre of excellence.

Virtual Meeting with Arkaya Awareness Centre Worldwide and Chopra Addiction and Wellness Center  (June 29, 2021)

Consul General Mr. Manish had a virtual meeting with Ms. Yogacharini Maitreyi, a holsitic coach on self awareness and the founder of Arkaya Awareness Centre Worldwide, Vancouver and Ms. Nirmala Raniga, Founder and Director Chopra Addiction and Wellness Center, Squamish, BC, on 29 July, 2021. Both Ms. Maitreyi and Ms. Raniga gave a brief overview of their contribution in spreading the awareness of Yoga, meditation and Sattvik food habits. Consul General Mr. Manish briefed them on the celebration of India@75 - Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav and welcomed them to partner with the Consulate in organizing the events related to India@75. Ms. Maitreyi and Ms. Raniga happily welcomed the proposal of the Consulate for partnering in India@75 events and assured their participation in future events.

IIT Madras develops drone algorithms to understand how fire behaves in space stations, satellites

Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras have developed algorithms for drones to help study how fire behaves in space stations, shuttles and satellites. According to the team, a multirotor microgravity platform can also simulate reduced-gravity environments similar to Moon and Mars, thereby recreating those conditions on Earth for experiments.

15-Year-Old Boy From Delhi Receives Diana Award

A 15-year-old boy from Delhi has received the prestigious Diana Award for going above and beyond in his daily life to create and sustain a positive change. Ishan Kapur, a student at Wellington College (UK), has been recognised with the highest accolade a young person can achieve for social action or humanitarian efforts - The Diana Award. Ishan works with the Sri Ramakrishna Ashram New Delhi. He helps a local school access uniforms for marginalised girls.
