Virtual Session on Consular Services (May 8, 2021)

PM to release 8th instalment of financial benefit under PM-KISAN on 14th May

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will release the 8th instalment of financial benefit under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme on 14th May at 11 AM via video conferencing. This will enable the transfer of more than Rs. 19,000 crores to more than 9.5 crores beneficiary farmer families. Prime Minister will also interact with farmer beneficiaries during the event. Union Agriculture Minister will also be present on the occasion. About PM-KISAN Under the PM-KISAN scheme, a financial benefit of Rs. 6000/- per year is provided to the eligible beneficiary farmer families, payable in three equal 4-monthly installments of Rs.2000/- each. The fund is transferred directly to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries. In this scheme, Samman Rashi of over Rs. 1.15 lakh crores has been transferred to farmer families so far.

Prime Minister reviews availability & supply of oxygen and medicines

Production of all drugs including Remdesivir have been ramped up significantly in the last few weeks

Supply of oxygen is now more than 3 times the supply during the peak of first wave

PM Narendra Modi chaired a high level meeting to review the availability & supply of oxygen & medicines. PM was briefed that the Government is actively monitoring the supply of drugs being used in the management of Covid as well Mucormycosis.

The Minister updated PM that they are in regular touch with the manufacturers to enhance production & extend all kind of help needed. PM was also informed about the current production & stock of APIs for each such drug. It was discussed that states are being provided medicines in good quantities. PM was also apprised that the production of all drugs including Remdesivir have been ramped up significantly in the last few weeks.

PM said that India has a very vibrant Pharma sector and Government’s continued close coordination with them will ensure proper availability of all medicines. PM also took stock of the situation on oxygen availability and supply in the country. It was discussed that the supply of oxygen is now more than 3 times the supply during the peak of first wave. PM was briefed about the operations of oxygen rail and sorties by IAF planes. PM was also informed about the status of procurement of Oxygen concentrators, oxygen cylinders as well as the status of PSA plants being installed across the country. PM also remarked that states should be asked to operationalize ventilators in a time-bound manner and resolve technical & training issues with the help of the manufacturers.

British Columbia aids COVID-19 response in India

British Columbia is providing relief funds to the Canadian Red Cross to help fight the current wave of COVID-19 in India.

“As the COVID-19 pandemic rages in India, its effects are being felt around the world,” said Premier John Horgan. “The relief funds from B.C. will help deliver urgently needed medical equipment and technical support for public health operations in communities across the country. For those with family in India, we stand with you during these challenging times.”

The Government of British Columbia is providing $500,000 to the Canadian Red Cross, which is offering support to the Indian Red Cross Society to deliver assistance to communities affected or at risk of being affected by COVID-19. “The pandemic has been devastating to people and families here in British Columbia and around the world, with India currently being severely impacted,” said Pat Quealey, vice-president for B.C. and Yukon, Canadian Red Cross. “The funding announced today by the Government of British Columbia will help save countless lives by providing essential care and supplies to assist people in India who are affected or at risk of being af

fected by COVID-19.” The aid from British Columbia is in addition to $10 million provided by the federal government to the Canadian Red Cross to support the Indian Red Cross Society. Canada’s contribution will support the procurement of essential supplies and medicines, including oxygen cylinders for clinics and ambulances.
 
British Columbians who want to donate to emergency efforts in India can do so by calling 1 800 418-1111 or online through the India COVID-19 response appeal: https://www.redcross.ca/ Additionally, donations to support COVID-19 relief in India will be accepted at all BC Cannabis Stores and BC Liquor Stores starting on Monday, May 17.
