Bal Pratiyogita (May 23, 2021)

Hindi Literary Society of Canada B.C. in partnership with Consulate General of India, Vancouver, organized “Bal Pratiyogita” on 23rd May, 2021 as part of “IndiaAt75 celebration - AzadiKaAmritMahotsav”. Congratulations to Winners of Bal Pratiyogita: Under 9 years - First- Somaira Deora; Second - Rujula Iyer & Third - Ananya Srikrishna. Under 12 years -First - Samaria Gupta; Second - Sanvi Gandhi & Third - Soham Nagpal. Under 15 years - First - Pratyaksha Awasthi; Second - Veda Prabhu & Third - Anya Gandhi.

Virtual Meeting with Sai Baba Mandir, Edmonton (May 24, 2021)

Consul General Mr. Manish held a virtual meeting on 24 May, 2021 with Mr. Prabhat Chaturvedi, Chairman and board members of Sai Baba Mandir, Edmonton, Alberta. Consul General briefed the members on the present COVID-19 situation in India and steps being taken by Government of India to deal with the situation. President of the temple expressed their solidarity with India and offered to contribute to GoI’s effort. On the query from them, CG explained the process of sending assistance to India and type of assistance required. CG also apprised them of the new changes in the Consular Services and also answered to their various queries. The discussion also focused on partnering with Sai Baba Mandir on celebrating IndiaAt75 to commemorate AzadiKaAmritMahatosav in Edmonton.

Mother’s Day event (May 24, 2021)

Consulate General of India in partnership with Friends of India Association of BC organized a virtual Mother’s Day event on 24 May 2021 as part of the ongoing celebrations of IndiaAt75. Consul General, Mr Manish took part in the virtual celebration. The celebration featured #Yoga demonstration by Nutan Thakur and Nari Shakati presentation by Vanita Puri, Deepa Sharma, Nalini Bhui, Sarika Gupta, Monika Paul, Ashok Rattan and Bhajan singing by Rana Gill. Other participants performed dance, songs and poetry in tribute of Mother.

Virtual Meeting with Indian Society of Calgary (May 28, 2021)

Consul General Mr. Manish held a virtual meeting on 28 May, 2021 with Dr. Devesh Oberio, Executive Director, Mr. Jayant Chowdhury and Ms. Mano of Indian Society of Calgary. Dr. Oberoi gave brief overview of the functioning of the Society and the assistance rendered by the Society to the Indian Diaspora as well as Indo-Canadians. Consul General Mr. Manish proposed to the Indian Society of Calgary to celebrate IndiaAt75 to commemorate #AzadiKaAmritMahatosav as well as #IDY2021 Yoga in partnership with the Consulate. Dr. Oberio welcomed the idea to commemorate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav & International Yoga Day and promised to offer their maximum support in organizing these events in Calgary.

Full-scale production of Sputnik V in India this summer: Russian developers

The developers of Russia’s Sputnik V Covid-19 vaccine and Panacea Biotec announced on Monday that full-scale production of the doses in India will start this summer. The Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) or Russia’s sovereign wealth fund has tied up with Indian pharmaceutical firms such as Gland Pharma, Hetero Biopharma, Panacea Biotec, Stelis Biopharma and Virchow Biotech to manufacture more than 850 million doses a year.
