39th Anniversary celebrations of Shri Guru Ravidas Sabha, Burnaby
(August 1, 2021)

Consul General Manish participated in the 39th Anniversary celebrations of Shri Guru Ravidas Sabha, Burnaby on 1 August. He was welcomed by President Rajesh Kumar Toora and committee members. CG interacted with the Committee members and later addressed the sangat. CG congratulated the Sabha on its anniversary and noted the immense contributions made by the Sabha to the needs of the community in Greater Vancouver area. This gurudwara was established by followers of Guru Ravidas ji to preserve and promote his life and teachings and give a place for worship to the followers. Remembering life, teachings and social message of Guru Ravidaji ias we celebrate #IndiaAt75 marking #AzadiKaAmritMahotsav Guru Ravidasji was a great saint, poet and social reformer who continue to inspire us. He espoused for a just society, based on non discrimination on account of caste, creed and religion.

“Bharat Ek Parichay” Book Distributions to Vancouver Public Library (August 04, 2021)

In a ceremony held on August 4, 2021 at Vancouver Public Library, Consul General Mr. Manish gifted a set of 51 books to Ms. Jennifer Chan, Library Board Chair of Vancouver Public Library (VPL). The set of books consisted of well-known titles in English, Hindi, 21 regional languages and books on popular Indian stories. The gifting of books to Vancouver Public Library is part of Government of India’s public diplomacy initiative to gift books on “Bharat Ek Parichay” (“Introduction to India”). Accepting the books on behalf of the library, Ms. Chan noted that "the set of books will be a valuable contribution to the collection of the library, and will immensely benefit the readers and general public interested in Indian studies." Consul General thanked Ms. Chan for receiving the collection of books and add create an India corner in the library. Mr. Manish highlighted the strong cooperation between India and Canada in educational sector. He also requested support of the library to commemorate 75th anniversary of India's Independence as part of #AzadiKaAmritMahotsav and requested VPL to partner with the Consulate to celebrate it. Ms. Chan welcomed the proposal to partner with the Consulate to celebrate #India@75 - #AzadiKaAmritMahotsav and assured VPL's participation in the celebration. The event was attended by Ms. Kay Cahill, Director of Collections & Technology and other staff members of the library.

IDY Award Ceremony (August 06, 2021)

Consul General presented mementos to IDY 2021 yoga teachers and recognized their contribution for successful conduct of curtain raiser and main International Day of Yoga events in May-June 2021. Consulate thanks IDY partners for their contribution in promoting #Yoga, the ancient Indian wisdom in Greater Vancouver area, specially during the celebration of #AzadiKaAmritMahotsav.

Bharat Ko Janiye Quiz Winners Award Ceremony (August 06, 2021)

Consul General presented medals and certificates to winners of Bharat Ko Janiye Quiz (2020-2021). Mr Pawandeep Singh Sahani, won gold medal in Non Resident Indian (NRI) category, while Mr. Shaid Habeeb won bronze medal under Person of Indian origin (PIO) category. Bharat Ko Janiye Quiz is a flagship event of Ministry of External Affairs. Bharat Ko Janiye Quiz was launched in 2015-16 in order to strengthen the engagement with young overseas Indians and encourage them to know more about their country of origin. The 3rd edition of Bharat Ko Janiye Quiz 2020-21 was held virtually from 30 September to 28 December 2020.
