 As part of outreach activity to meet Indian students in key educational institutions in Vancouver, Consul General visited downtown Campus of Vancouver Community college on 23 March, 2022 and interacted with President Ajay Patel, Director International Engagement Jennifer Gossen, Deans and students. CG was given a tour of IT, Management , Culinary and salon courses and interacted with the Indian students. CG briefed the students on various programs and policies of the Consulate for the Indian students and encouraged them to register in @MeaMadad portal. The discussion also focussed on student led celebrations to commemorate #AzadiKaAmritMahotsav. VCC leadership showed interest in partnership to skill Indian students in new trades, in particular operating and maintaining e-vehicles. VCC has more than 700 Indian students.

 The Consulate organized a Workshop on Robotic Manufacturing Technologies for Building Carbon-Neutral Homes on 25th March, 2022 with IC-IMPACTS at UBC. The event was organized under the Make in India Initiatives and provided an opportunity to discuss collaboration between academics and industry in Canada and India in the field of new technology. The hybrid workshop was attended by around 50 people in-person and many others virtually. Consul General Mr. Manish in his remarks gave an overview of India’s ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives that seek to bolster manufacturing in India. Prof. Nemy Banthia, CEO of IC-IMPACTS touched on the growing demand for housing in India and how new technologies can play an important role in efficiently addressing that demand. Panelists participated from India, Canada, Germany and China. BC was represented by Mr. Raghwa Gopal, CEO of Innovate BC and Mr. Harbs Bains, Manager (India desk), BC business development services. Following were some of the topics that the speakers on the panel addressed: 1. Sustainable Resources for Additive Manufacturing Dr. Biranchi Panda, Indian Institute of Technology – Guwahati 2. Utilizing Resources towards Carbon-Neutrality Dr. Sandra Gelbrich, Chemnitz University of Technology 3. Green Construction Technologies and Practices Dr. Mark Green (TBC), Queen’s University 4. Development and Performance Assessment of Novel Sensing Devices Dr. Fae Azhari, University of Toronto 5. Intelligent Systems and Automation Dr. Yamei Zhang, Southeast University 6. Education, technology & global impact Mr. Raju Goteti, TCS co-innovative network The event concluded with a round-table discussion between panelists from academia, industry and government who were present at the workshop

 Surrey Art Center reverberated with Indian classical music & dance organized by Naad Arts on March 26, 2022 to celebrate Rhythmic Performances 2022. Organized to coincide with #AzadiKaAmritMahotsav, the concert saw talented Indian origin artists in BC perform to a full house. Consul General Manish graced the occasion and felicitated the artists along with Surrey mayor Hon Doug McCallum and MLA @jinnysims and community leaders. Consul General spoke about rich Indian cultural heritage, the #AzadiKaAmritMahotsav celebrations & Jan bhagidari to commemorate it. Amarjeet Singh, tabla player and a former tabla teacher of @iccr_hq who worked at @iccr_tashkent led the presentation. The show was based on teacher-disciple tradition of Indian classical heritage supported by @CityofSurrey @cgivancouver and community India in Vancouver.

 Consulate General of India, Vancouver, in collaboration with Friends of India Association (FOI) in BC celebrated #Holi2022 under #AzadiKaAmritMahotsav celebrations with Jan bhagidari on March 27, 2022. Founded in 1970s as India Club, FOI is longest surviving association bringing Indian community together. Consul General Manish was pleased to join #Holi2022 celebrations organized by #FriendsofIndia. Consul General spoke about rich Indian cultural heritage and thanked President and Board Members of #FriendsofIndia for organizing the event it. He also extended greetings all the Indian community on the occasion of #Holi2022. Talented Indian origin artists and their children presented melodious various dance performances on Bollywood songs, including songs of Lata Mangeshkarji to pay her tribute.

 Consul General Manish attended meeting of CCBC hosted by Hon. Mr. Bruce Ralston Minister of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation in Victoria on March 28, 2022. On the sidelines CG had productive meetings with Hon Speaker of BC Raj Chouhan, Hon. Mr. Ravi Kahlon, Minister of Jobs, Economic Recovery and Innovation of BC; and Hon. Mr. Aman Singh, MLA for Richmond-Queensborough and Hon. Ms. Harwinder Sandhu, MLA for Vernon-Monashee.

 Consul General Manish visited Surrey City Council City of Surrey and met Surrey Mayor Hon. Doug McCallum on March 29,2022. Both sides exchanged great ideas for deepening economic and cultural engagement and partnering in diaspora led events. Surrey is home to large Indian community.
