Consul General Manish signed a MOU with University of Calgary on behalf of ICCR-Indian Council for Cultural Relations on 29 June, 2022 to set up a Chair of Indian Studies at Faculty of Arts. From University of Calgary, Dr. William Ghali, Vice President (Research) signed the MoU. University of Calgary became fourth University in Canada to have an India Chair. The establishment of ICCR Chair of Indian Studies will further deepen educational cooperation & academic exchanges between India and Canada. Hon. Mr. Prasad Panda, Minister of Transport of Alberta; Dr. Janaka Ruwanpura, Vice Provost and Associate Vice President International from UCalgary; Ms. Andrea Morrow, Director International Relations from UCalgary; and Indian community leaders attended the MoU signing ceremony.

The members of Consular Corps of BC (CCBC) had an interactive session with City of Vancouver Mayor, Councillors and city officials on 28 June, 2022. Hon Mayor Kennedy Stewart addressed the gathering and outlined the priorities of the City. As Acting Dean of CCBC, Consul General Manish delivered remarks appreciating City of Vancouver’s outreach with Consular Corps for mutually beneficial relationship.

The Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development participated in an interactive session organized by BC-India Business Network (BCIBN) on 5 July 2022 at Vancouver. The event was attend by Mr Manish, Consul General of India, Board Members of BCIBN, business leaders and officials. Mr Vivek Savkur, Founder & President Emeritus of BCIBN welcomed the Minister and the guests attending the event. Consul General gave an overview of the State of Indian Economy, which is the fasted growing economy in the world; overview of the Canada-India bilateral Economic relations and role of British Columbia in the bilateral trade with India. Hon Minister gave an overview of her visit to India on 11 March 2022 for the 5th Ministerial Dialogue with her counterpart Hon Shri Piyush Goyal and the agreement to re-launch the negotiations for India-Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). She also highlighted the ongoing discussion between India and Canada to complete the Early Progress Trade Agreement (EPTA).

Oregon State University Gets The First Woman Indian-American President

The Board of Trustees of Oregon State University approved Jayathi Murthy as the institution’s next president FREMONT, CA: Jayathi Murthy became the first woman to hold the position of dean at the UCLA School of Engineering and Applied Science, where she currently holds the position. She also lectures in the UCLA department of mechanical and aerospace engineering. She will hold the position of president of Oregon's largest public institution for the first time as a woman of colour. Murthy is glad to join the university and expresses her gratitude to the university’s outstanding faculty, staff, and leaders, as well as their dedication to inclusive excellence, student success, and extensive experience and leadership in online education.

Scientists discover material that can convert infrared light to renewable energy

Scientists have discovered a novel material that can emit, detect and modulate infrared light with high efficiency, making it useful for solar and thermal energy harvesting as well as for optical communication devices. The discovery has significant potential in the strategic arena of defence and space as well as the power sector. “Researchers discovered a material called single-crystalline scandium nitride (ScN) that can emit, detect, and modulate infrared light with high efficiency,” according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Science and Technology on Tuesday.
